Therapy for parents in North Carolina and South Carolina

Should parenting really be this hard?

You were always told that parenting is hard, but you never expected it to be like this. Sure, the sleepless newborn nights and hundreds of diapers were tough, but you knew that was coming. Everyone told you the tantrums were just the “terrible twos” or “troublesome threes,” but it seems never-ending, and your child just hasn’t grown out of it.

You’ve gotten all the help you can for your child. Done all the evaluations, seen the specialists, and even have a therapist for your kid. Yet it still doesn’t feel like enough. The days are hard, and it feels like everything you do is for your child. And then there’s nothing left for you or your relationship. Many of my clients come to me because, while they are doing everything in their power to help their child, they need support for themselves. They’re looking for a space where they can focus on how all of this impacts them, so they can better support their child. They know that when they are in parent mode, they need to be calm, supportive, and loving, even during those times they don’t feel that way. They notice themselves constantly feeling on-edge and overwhelmed, and know this isn’t sustainable.

You’re ready to change the interactions you have with your child.

How therapy works

You can find peace and joy in parenting.

My goal for my parents is to help you have a space where the focus is on you and your wellness. Yes, I want you to be supportive of your child and all they are going through, but you also deserve to be heard. You need a space to openly express the difficulties with parenting that aren’t often talked about. To talk about the sadness, anger, and even regrets, without fear of judgment. To get the skills and tools to help you not feel so overwhelmed, to reconnect with your partner, and find peace in parenting again.

I truly enjoy helping parents have a happy, healthy relationship with their kids. It is truly an honor to help families get to the space where they can navigate all of the struggles of parenting without getting overwhelmed. It can be hard initially to open up to someone and talk about these things, especially those feelings about parenting that aren’t 100% positive. That’s why we move at your pace. You get to choose how much you say and when you say it. And know that there truly is no judgement. This is hard, and I commend you for reaching out. And it’s worth it.
